Representative Payee Program
Representative Payee Program has been established for Social Security benefit checks receipients who need a representative payee and for improving the lives of those who have this need. This program is approved by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Clients are normally referred to this program by the SSA or other service agencies.
Whether clients request this service themselves or by referral from a service agency, client participation must be approved by the SSA. Participation requires clients to open a custodial checking account with our agency. Our agency will handle clients’ bill payments and disburse personal spending money to clients up to twice a month. For clients who have regular surplus on their budgets, they are encouraged to open a custodial savings account as well. Occasional disbursement from savings to clients or to a third party may be necessary for clients who have established a custodial savings account.
To ensure that client participation improves their lives, clients are required to discuss their budget with a counselor at least once a month. We budget with clients and encourage that clients save their surplus to ensure they will have a chance at covering the unexpected expenses or meeting their saving goals. We also keep record of disbursements for client bills and client personal spending money. In addition, we carry insurance in case there are accounting errors. Clients can ease their mind in participation in this program.
This program is currently available at our offices in Green Bay and Manitowoc. For questions on fee or other information, please call our office near you.
